Just got this motor, took it to the mechanic, he changed plugs, lower unit oil, checked it out, said it runs great. I tested it twice, short jaunts on the water, was AOK. Yesterday and today it ran good, except when wide it open--it sputtered, cut in and out, but did not stall. It never stalled. I would idle it for a couple minute in neutral and it would run fine again, troll, and moderate throttle. But wide open it cut in and out again...

It sounds to me like it's starving for fuel at WOT. Weak fuel pump, air leak in the lines or bulb, partially clogged high speed jet, improper float level (from recent carb rebuild?). I believe if you have someone pump the bulb when it's acting up and it cures the problem, that would indicate a bad fuel pump. I'm sure someone else will chime in with recommendations. Good luck!
