Could probably need a tad more info of what is going on, but could be the distributor module

I had a similar (exactly the same) problem on one of my engines a few years ago. After a lot of troubleshooting it turned out to be a lack of a ground wire on the distributor body. That caused a high resistance in the ground circuit for the module, which caused a loss of reference for it and a loss of total advance.

Check your engine wiring harness, you should find an unused ground wire near the distributor. Take one of the module mounting screws out and hook the ground wire in to that.
