I just got a 93 40 yamaha OB tiller handle, and was wondering if there is a way to adjust/tighten the throttle handle. It`s so hard to hold I have to switch hands in order to keep the motor running, especially at WOT.I have a friend and his throttle will stay at wherever he sets it to the point you can actually take your hand off the trottle and just steer.

i belive that your engine has a little knob you can tighten to do that in the handle right underneath the the grip.. if its not there then you are missing parts on the handle..

if you lift the tiller upwards, you will see there is a nut or screw, depending on your model, it normally is on the shaft and you can just tighten that .....

Are you talking about the screw on the handle itself(there`s a phillips head screw on the rubber grip part of the handle that allows removal of the handle) or somewhere else? Also, is there a area in the throttle mechanism that could be oiled so the throttle handle would`nt be so hard to turn/twist?Thanks, Bassstrat

Nope it is not the philips screw on the grip handle it is lower down .... .... I also do not understand, you say the throttle is hard to turn but you wanto tighten it more cause you can't hold on to it ......

Re: 1993 40 yamaha throttle question

The throttle is pretty hard to turn, but, at the same time,it won`t stay at a certain setting if I relieve the turning pressure with my hand! This makes it very tiring to drive the boat long distances.I want to be able to let the pressure off the throttle and have it remain at that speed/setting until I phisically turn the handle again. I have friend that has a motor (25 yamaha)and this is how his is set. Very easy on the wrist on a long run! Thanks, Bassstrat
