Hi All,

Was on bay this weekend getting a lot more saltwater behind dash then I should. Definitely had moisture on livewell switch which is next to ignition switch. Motor ran beautifully, then after a drift, and a 10 minute run to new area, constant beep, beep, beep beep, beep, that does not end. Motor still runs like a top. Usually when switch is turned to on, it beeps once. Now it does not stop beeping when turned on or running. With what I have read tonight I am guessing, oil, module or warning horn issue. Where should I start first? Any tips appreciated. I do not own a workshop manual. Making that purcahse now online after this post. Thanks in advance as always!

Re: 1993 60 HP Merc Warning System questions 0d260043

I found this from a post from over a year ago on a 1989 90 HP:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Re: Constant Beep, Beep, Beep...Low Oil Warning

The possibilities...
1. You are below 1/4 tank of oil
2. your oil tank sensor float isn't floating or the magnet fell out
3. your oil tank sensor is bad
4. The warning module is bad

1 is most likely, but you probably already checked that
2 is very common on other smaller models, but maybe it happened to yours
3 is possible but not common
4 is unlikely because a bad module usually sends a constant or ghostly tone, or very rapid beeping

If you can see the float inside the tank, try lifting it with a strategically configured coat hanger. If the beeping goes away you eliminated 3 as a possibility.
Fill the oil tank. If the beeping goes away, you eliminated 1 as a possibility.
Disconnect either of the blue wires from the oil tank sensor. If the beeping stops, you eliminated 4 as a possibility.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was probably 3/4 full of oil. So 1 is out!
I dont see an oil tank float (is it a red ball or something???) I am assuming I am the common smaller model noted above.
Where is the Oil Tank Sensor located?....is it visible? Is it testable?
I did disconnect a blue wire, got the beep to go away. So 4 is out! (ok, now that I see what I am typing, follow that blue wire to the Oil Tank Sensor...but is it testable?)
Should i consider removing the oil via siphon then removing the tank to find the float and magnet? I see where the blue wires attach at front bottom (with a mirror) and I see where the green 1/4" line or so comes out from the bottom rear. I assume that little square job it plugs into is the oil pump.
I see the tank at mercruiserparts.com 1263-812718T1 Looks like a no brainer for 70.00, assuming the float is in there.
It also contains the cap and its seal. I also see a switch with a harness (Item 10) for 14.00 87-12886A6 any clue what this switch is? Is it the float?

Also, while searching for the blue wires....there is that main big round plug ( I will call it the in from the boat) with 8-10 or so studs that of course plug into receptacle on that same side. coming out the back end of it is a Blue/White wire, a Green/White wire, which are both connected to there respective wires, but there is also a Brown/White Male quick disconnect and a Tan Female quick disconnect.....What are these 2 for? They are not connected to anything.

Thanks in advance

Tank arrived today, 2 hours later its in.
turned key, beep beep beep still there
I drained oil
laid old tank upside down
turned key
beep beep beep gone
removed oil line to motor
removed probe pin/harness (simply a screw with a waasher holding in the probe/pin (look like a 3" bolt with no threads)
put in new tank
screwed probe down
attached oil line
filled with oil (took less oil then came out)
turned key
beep beep beep gone
:)

Also, one of my questions I still need help with as the dealer only ordered the owners manual, not maintenance!!!! i have to wait.

there is that "main" big round plug ( I will call it the in from the boat) with 8-10 or so studs that of course plug into receptacle on the same right side. coming out the back end of it is a Blue/White wire and a Green/White wire, which are both connected to there respective wires, but there is also a Brown/White Male quick disconnect and a Tan Female quick disconnect, connected to nothing at all.....What are these 2 for? They are not connected to anything.
Anyone? Are they oil pres and temp ? My gut says the other end is in my dash, not used. oil temp and/or pres maybe?????

help,
thanks,
myt
