1993 70HP Rude.. help removing lower unit/update of 'slow mode'

Guys... Engine has spark, 120psi compression and all 3 carbs are getting gas!!! What else would make it still run like its in slow mode?! I disco'd the temp sensor and tried to rev w/out it.. and nothing.

Since I am working on the engine, I decided to TRY to take off the lower unit tonight.. OMG! I cannot disconnect the drive shaft!! SELOC says to remove a cotter pin.. what?! I removed the fuel pump.. amongst other things, and I can see the shaft coming up (underneath the engine of course) and a clamp that is holding the gear linkage shaft.. then I see a small pin that goes thru the shaft (to the LU).. IS THAT the small pin that I have to remove to get the LU to drop?! If so, HOW?! Is there an easy way to do so? This seems like a lot of work for something that is supposed to be routine maintenance...

You will need to remove all bolts, dont forget the one underneath the trim tab #68. The shift rod will also need to be disconnected #50. May help to put the shifter into Reverse along with a swivel socket and small extension.

The only thing I see that is holding the shaft, is a push rod of sorts, that is running thru the shaft and clamped onto the gear linkage. Even with the gear linkage removed, there is still that REALLY small rod going thru the shaft and clamped to the linkage. I would need a punch to remove it.. but how in the world would I get it back in ?!

THanks! Putting in reverse dropped the LU..

NOW.. As far as the problem still existing. When we tested the coils for output.. we were getting from 17-28k.. THe middle one (the one that when I pulled the plug to test for spark) Was the only one that was kind of a steady output.. the other two (top and bottom) the voltage kept changing.

Does this sound like the coils are dying?! hence why it is running rough and RPMS limited to 2500/3000 - Because I am REALLY only running on one cylinder?!
