boat has sat for 8 yrs. found water in the outdrive so i pressure tested it. resealed the shift shaft and fixed leak. now holds steady 10 psi and have no idea how the oil got into gimbal boot. if the out drive was leaking from the upper oil seal behind drive shaft wouldnt their be air leaking? what can it be boat sat for 8 yrs can it be related to that?? bilge is clean no oil.. so i am stumped

The boat sat for 8 years with water in the drive oil? If so, you are going to have bearing problems.
Are you sure the oil in the gimble bellows (boot) is drive oil? If the boat sat a long time, it's very likely the oil you saw is actually very old grease from the gimble bearing. Grease breaks down with age and starts to liquify. Was there dried out looking grease stuck to the gimble bearing? If so, There you go.
Your handle, riverboy... would that be the Colorado river? Extreem heat also melts grease.

yes havasu i used the river a lot as a kid and bought a jet. bought when i was 18 still have the username sold it a few yrs back im 26 now. the gimble bearing did have dried up grease looking on it. but their is like maybe 4- 8 onces of oily golden brown mixture in the bellows. the out drive oil had a teaspoon or so of clear water that came out first when pulled plug i think it was the condensation from sittiong over the yrs. the u joints have surface rust no pits wipes right off. i resealed the shift shaft busing last nite. put upper back on lower and pressure tested drive. held 10 psi for 2 hrs then i released the air after seeing no leak down. sprayed all the seals down no bubbles? also sprayed by the spanner nut behind u-joints no soapy bubbes their either so i am stumped i think i might replace gimble since i bought the transom repair kit with all new bellows and gaskets. and then run the unit and check the oil after using it on lake for day. then let it sit over night and check fluid for water next day. what do u think i should do. i bought the upper seal kit and a spanner wrench to remove the spanner nut but thats all the special tools i have can i replace the oil seal and o-ring with out pulling bearings off ?
