I am in the process of putting a new 489 stroker in my old Crownline to get a few more years out of it. The existing mounts in the front have a lot of corrosion on them so I am replacing them. What is the normal process, do you refill the existing lag holes with fiberglass or possibly use longer lag bolts?

Ayuh,.... Is the wood still solid,..??

Aren't the lags goin' into the same holes,..??

Just fiberglass ain't enough, maybe glue in dowels,....

Don't use Longer lags, ya might run it right through the hull,.....

I would cut the old wood out and rebuild the mounts and stringers using 3/4 ply, epoxy resin and glass. To do it best after the rebuild, do thru bolts and aluminum angle to finish it. Lag bolts are used by the lower end boat builders, thru bolts are mush better and last

Bondo, the intent is to put the lags in the same holes. I don't know whether or not the wood is good yet but I wanted to know the normal procedure. It sounds to me that if the material is still good, just put the bolts back in the same holes????
