Ok- this thing runs awesome mid-top end. Rough idle- sneezing sputtering stalling. From idle up to 1/4 throttle it isnt a crisp smooth accel. I have great compression- new plugs(the proper ones) gapped @ .30 for extended trolling. Engine was rebuilt last yr and it ran great- sat over the winter, and all this started. In the past week- rebuilt carbs- fuel system flush, new water seperator, new inline fuel filter, new plug wires. Link and sync checked- spot on. Now what? Any ideas?

Check your grounds to the all electrical components. starting at the coils and move up to the power pack. Check everything including the wirine connectors and wire for copper rot. Also might want to check out your wire connections and spark plug wires. It is probably something small.

When you did the carbs did you do the throttle plate behind the carbs? It has the orfices in it that provide the fuel for idling and partial of the first 1/4 of throttle. Just a thought.

My 1994 150 have adjustable idle screws. I'm not sure if 1993's have fixed jets or adjustable screws. If it has the screws the manual states to start at 3 turns out. If the carbs are spitting that means you have a lean condition and have to open ( counterclockwise) .
The screws should be turned 1/8 at a time then wait 15 secs. To react.
It can be a time consuming process and VERY frustrating!

ok Bisson- yes I did clean the idle passage on the throttle plates. Once i pulled a carb, i realized that i sprayed cleaner in each passage and then blew air thru each one to watch the cleaner spray out the holes looking for a blockage. Cajun Blues- my carbs are the 6 individual carbs that are non adjustable by means of a screw. I can however do the old solder the idle orifice closed to richen up the idle - however i dont like that idea. Kinda frustrated. I am wanting to just trade this engine for a smaller one anyway. It is way more power than what I need. I am searching for a 70-100 hp johnson/rude for my boat. All i do is idle all day anyways-i just creep down the river or in the bay.
