I am having a problem with my motor the model no. is E17GLETR. The vro pump is still being used. The motor will stall for a second if I an running 30 mph. it will stall like the key has been shut off and then start going again before I can get off the throttle. The problem can happen at any speed. W.O.T. I am running 5600 rpm and it has done it at w.o.t. My fear is breaking something in the lower unit when the motor recovers so quick I cant get off the throttle. The motor idles great and starts with no problems when I use the primer. When the motor sits for an hour or so it tries to die but if I use the primer it will continue to run. After the motor has run if I use the primer it will stall like it should. I have fire on all cylinders and 115 to 120 lbs. of compression on all cylinders.I have replaced the primer bulb and all the fuel lines. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I had a very similar problem with my engine(same as yours) and it was caused by a very small fuel leak in the solenoid. It might be worth a look or otherwise look for any sign of a minor leak in the fuel lines or system.
Good luck

I had a 93 50 hp and a similar problem. Turns out the magnet(s) on the flywheel had come loose. Became a very expensive fix even though OMC paid half. That same motor was exhibiting similar tendencies when we sold and got a Honda. I'm told and believe that OMC was only a shadow of its former self at that time. (late 80s and early 90s) Check the magnets asap just to make sure that is not the problem. Once the cylinder is burned, it gets expensive. Good luck Granp***

Sounds like you need a new power pack. About $235.00 plus labor. Take a look at 'search' above. There have been many conversations on this. ;)

I didnt mention this in response to 93evinrude about the magnets. I dont have this problem everytime I run the motor. If the magnets are loose wouldnt it do it more often or every time I run high speeds.
Mumbelrone can you explain why you think its the power pack.

I think you were directing the magnet question to me. (Granpa) I'm in no way an expert on this issue so I won't attempt to give you any mechanical advice. I can only identify with the symtoms you describe, and my experience. Actually there were a number of times when the engine ran fine after the initial onset. It seemed to only be an occassional problem up until the time that the engine died and stayed dead. I want you to check it out now just in case since it is a very expensive repair if that is, in fact, the problem. Heres hoping that it is something easy and cheap. Granpa

BigR , your problem sounds like infamous fuel restriction through carbs.Almost all running problems are attributable to gummy deposits in fixed orifices in carbs.pick-up tubes, jets and or needle seats.the fact that it settles out when primer is used is indication of such.when two stroke motors sit idle for weeks without running this is common occurance. On this instant die situation have you noticed whether fuel prime bulb stays firm? Also instant die situation can be attributable to lanyard kill switch not making good contact assuming one is installed.

Ob thanks for your help I have a kill switch and it seems to be working fine that was my first thing I checked. The fuel bulb does stay firm I checked it numerous times and even changed it. I dont know how long it has been since a carb. rebuild I purchase the boat six months ago and have used it alot. This problem occured aprox. two months ago but the motor has never stalled all the way out only for a split second and usually after I get out of the hole and hit full plane. The motor also done it once pulling up a skier. Thanks for your help.

BigR ,can you possitively rule out air leak on suction side of fuel pump? These fuel line tiewraps bother me. I changed all of mine to stainless clamps.Make sure fuel tank is venting well and the crankcase pulse hose is sealing at vro pump.Possibly fuel pump half of vro is getting tired.
