1993 Evinrude 175

I just purchased a used lower unit for my 1993 Evinrude 175 - I knew I needed the 2 piece drive shaft unit and thats what I told the seller and supposedly that what I would be recieving - well now that its arrived - its an older one that has a one piece drive shaft. My mechanic tried to fit it but of course it won't work. The guy i purchased the unit from said it will work with the correct drive shaft length - is that true?

If it is off a crossflow motor it will not work even if height was correct as splines are different length.
