I just bought a 1993 Stratos 201 bass boat with a 225 evinrude vindicator. The engine runs great, and the guy I bought it from has a reciept where he spent 4500 on a power head rebuild 2 years ago with little use since because he became ill. The engine runs fine and pushes the 20ft boat well over 60mph with power left it seems like. My questions is whether or not there should be an audible sound when you turn the key on to let you know the alarms are working? When I start the boat I hear no alarm at all, my old Mercury 150 would beep at first turn of key to verify function.

Plus , is this a good engine to run? I am not very knowledgable on Evinrude , and not much on outboards in general. Any advice help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to run compression check just for my own knowledge , is there any green zone info there? Thanks
