I have been having an overheat problem with my motor. It started overheating only when wide open. I replaced water pump and thermostats. Still overheated, but only at full throttle. I just replaced water-flow restrictors inside the head. Cranked the motor up with muffs on. It ran fine for a couple of minutes then the water stream started sputtering and the overheat alarm went off. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: 1993 Evinrude V4 overheat

Hi Mojo, had the same problem with my Evinrude 35HP a few years ago, turned out it was the headgasket, was OK when cold but when motor warmed up it was allowing exhaust to pass into the water jacket, which in turn worked against the water flow, hence stopped waterflow and created overheat problem. I was lucky, I caught it before any damage was done. Hope this helps.

Cheers
Flathead

Hi mojogroff, can you tell me if the new head gasket fixed the overheating problem ?
I am having the same problem with my engine overheating only at high rpm's.

I believe that the problem is fixed. Did a test in the driveway. I'm planning to do a water test this weekend.
