I have finally finished putting this motor back together after 6 months of having to taken apart. Took more money than I had planned, and I had some unexpected bills in the middle of it that set me back and made me put off getting this thing done. Anyways, I'm hoping to get the remaining fuel lines I need to get it all hooked back up so I can start it up, but don't really know the proper way to do this. I've never been the 1st one to start a rebuilt engine before, so is there anything I should do or need to do? I only know what I have heard, like doubling the amount of oil for the 1st while (not sure how long though), but other than that, I just don't know. I am sort of thinking I should squirt some 2 cycle oil into the cylinders through the spark plug holes to help lube it while cranking it for the 1st time, but not sure about that. Ya know, just to keep it lubed while it gets fuel/oil mix into there. The VRO is removed, has been since I bought it. I have a trash can I'm going to fill with water to submerge the LU in instead of using muffs, but I know I can't rev it more than 1500rpms, the trash can ain't that big, LoL. I've already got the shift linkage adjusted properly, checked that as soon as I got it back on and hooked up. It was too tall at first and I had no reverse, so had to shorten the rod a few turns (2), and now all is good. The only thing I don't have (due to missing a part from my order I got yesterday) is the t-stat. I have most of the parts, but I'm missing a spring that goes in the assembly. The motor had no t-stat when I got it, just a huge spring in the housing.
So, any suggestions on some good things to do for the 1st start on a rebuild? Any help or thoughts is appreciated. Hope it runs good, need to sell it to regain part of my money spent.
