Hello all,

I recently purchased my first boat. Right now the motor is stuck in the "up" position. It will drop enough to give it room to go back up 1/4 of an inch. That is all. I've read posts about adding fluid, which does not seem normal seeing that the reservouir fill is in the middle of the reservouir. I tried but it seems that more was coming out then in. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get the motor down???

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm very green when it comes to boats.

Thanks.

check the "trailering" bracket on the back underneath the motor. that is probably up....stopping the motor from coming down. trim the motor all the way UP....then go behind the motor and flip that metal tab down. then your motor should be able to trim up and down normally...

The trailering bracket isnt in the way. Right now the motor is so far up that the bracket isn't anywhere near stopping it.

Thanks though.

OMC has an emergency valve which can be opened to raise or lower the engine if the trim does not work, or if the engine does not have a battery. On your year engine it may hide inside the left side transom bracket. There is a cast hole in the bracket and a screw head appears visible from the side. You can open the screw with a large screwdriver and the hydraulic pressure will bleed off, causing the engine to go down. Don't unscrew this screw much, just enough to get it to go down. This also works if stuck down and you need to raise it.

I've tried the release screw as well. It didn't do anything. Is this something that will happen right away, or a slow progression.?

Thanks for the suggestion though.
