I have a 1993 Johnson outboard on a Ranger 481 VS. I just bought the boat, i'm not sure how long it had been sitting but I took it out the other day and it worked just find. I took it out yesterday, but before I took it out I filled the starboard gas tank and put in a can of sea foam. It stared right up fine but after a little while of fishing I started it back up but when I tried to accelerate, the engine would cut out like it wasn't getting any gas. There is a switch between the driver and passenger seat that allows to transfer between starboard, port and aux gas tanks. I tried switching to the port tank and it worked initially but then did the same thing(the gauge says empty) but it worked every once in awhile. It seemed like when I got it past a certain point then it worked just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New to you, condition and history unknown?

I would go through that fuel system,
draw some fuel from ea tank and leave in a glass, watch for water.

If it has a water seperator change it, if not, I'd install one.

I'd rebuild the carbs with new kits too.

Then on to water pump.

Then check lower gear oil, change it and use new seals on drain screws.

Pull prop and inspect for fishing line on prop shaft, regrease and install prop.
Use new cotter pin.

Get the service manual.
