Hey guys I had another post on here a while back with no luck. I have a 1993 4.3 2 barrel with electric fuel pump and have not been able to locate any type of fuel filter on the engine. It does not have a canister filter. I would like to change it once I find it. Thanks

Post your engine serial number. I suspect it's a filter that needs to be retro-fitted to a spin-on type...

Undo fuel line where it enters the carb. Should be a filter in that cavity.

That model also had a canister just before the fuel pump. I was only used for a year, then the kit was released to retro-fit to the 'standard' spin-on type, but I need the serial number to confirm that. Once i have that I can give all the right details for the correct kit...

Is the serial # stamped on the block somewhere? Thanks

Ok the serial # is OD393745 that is what is on the cover on top of the carb. Also there is no filter where the line enters the carb that I could see.

And here's why we like serial numbers... That engine is 1990, not 1993 and was never supplied with a fuel filter. You need to buy a kit and fit it to the boat. Something like this -> Water Separating Fuel Filter Kit - iboats

Is there a serial # stamped on the block to verify its a 1990? I know they put a new engine in the boat in 2006 but they didn't know the year of the engine that was put in.

The serial number you gave me (0D393745) is what I used to check the year. If a new engine went in, it would have a new serial number. Block casting numbers can be difficult to date an engine by. Some easier method of verifying the year are:

Mechanical fuel pump or electric?
Tin timing cover or composite?
How many bolts hold the intake manifold on? (8 or 12)
Fluid mounts or solid.
Balance shaft engine?

What is your block casting number?

Chris.....

There is a website that has gone some ways to listing and giving methods of getting close to a year by block number...

Good luck...

Ok electric fuel pump, tin timing cover, 12 bolts, and solid rubber mounts. Maybe that will help. Thanks

I went and looked for it but didn't see anything. Where would it be?

Back of the block, behind the starboard head. You're looking for an 8 digit number. I have a V6 here in pieces, I'll go and photograph the area, give you a better idea.

Re: 1993 mercruiser 4.3 fuel filter

1993-’94 WITH BALANCE SHAFT: Things got more confusing with the balance shaft blocks in ’93-’94. All of these engines have to have the two extra bolt holes for the strut bosses and 10 bolt holes for the tin front cover. See photo. There are five castings that may or may not be right:
•All of the 10224534 and 10224535 blocks have the two strut bosses and 10 holes for the front cover, so they will fit everything in ’93 and ’94;
The 10227196 castings have the strut bosses, but they came with either six or 10 holes;
•The 10224834 blocks have 10 bolt holes, but they came with or without the strut bosses;
•The 10235359 blocks were the most confusing because they came with or without the two strut bosses and with either six or 10 holes for the front cover!
Consequently, all of these castings must be checked and sorted by both casting number and features in order to be sure that they will work in everything in ’93 and ’94

Looks like you have a 1993/94 casting, but that serial number is DEFINITELY 1990. May explain why you have no filter. Looks like someone replaced the original block with a later model, and just transferred the rest of the bolt-ons across, apart from the fuel pump. Check that you have an oil pressure switch in the supply feed for the pump, and a 'by-pass' on the starter motor solenoid.

Looking at the hot 6 site it shows this # as being 1995. It has my exact # as starting in 95.

Could you post a link to where you're reading that. What I quoted up above IS from an article on the Hot6 site... :confused:

Just found this in my service bulletins folder. Might also help...

Scroll down to the V6 section...
