I have a 1993 Tohatsu M50D outboard on my 20' pontoon. Started missing hard past half throttle thru WOT (like hitting rev limiter). Cleaned carbs, new plugs, everything checks out fine below half throttle. Tinkered with it for a couple weekends and finally broke down and took it to a certified Tohatsu mechanic (found through Tohatsu Website). He told me it is a dead miss on all three cylinders at WOT and he thinks it is the power pack but he is not certain and if he orders one and it dosent fix the problem I am out the 400$ for powerpack and the 200$ he has already charged me to hypothosize about the problem. I asked if it could be a faulty temperature sensor or oil jug sensor but he said he didnt think the temp sensor would cause that and he wasnt sure if it had an oil level sensor on it. The guy dosent sell Tohatsus and I am begining to wonder if I took it to the wrong place.

Any advice would be appreciated. Should I buy the powerpack, could it be a sensor, something else?

My cousin and I have 4 boats at his house and 0 run so my uncle calls us "Dont Run Marine"

If you found the mechanic through the Tohatsu website then he is a Tohatsu dealer and does sell the engines...He also will have been to Tohatsu factory school and using the service manual for that model engine, he can test the CD module. But, since he has no clue as to what he is doing I would suggest a quick trip to another dealership. What's your zip code?

My Zip is 37766 and I selected "Authorized Service Centers" within 150 miles. I chose the closest one.

Currently I am in 200 doallars to them and to be honest the only thing they have told me that I didnt know for certain was that the motor was actually missing on all 3 cylinders at WOT.

I feel like I have just burned two $100 Bills.

I see who you went to and I honestly have never heard of them...Lets assume that they have changed hands or lost a mechanic. So, the next one closest to you is also an unknown. That leaves Cumberland at 931-372-9084. I do know them and they are competent.
