Last year my motor siezed and i had a dealer install a rebuilt. It has 15 hours on it now and it does not idle or troll, it is constantly sputtering and coughing and then it will stall. I have taken it back to him three times and he says everything checks, timing, plugs, carbs, etc, only this time he says he has talked to the rebuilders and they say that they may have rebuilt the motor to tight and after 40 to 50 hours this problem may go away, thats a whole summer and i think there lying, they said that was common among these years, they called it "a break-in cough" i have never heard of that nor believe them. I have owned this boat for 5 years and it always idled and trolled perfectly Any suggestions on what it might be?

Hear that loud bell going off in your head? That means something is wrong with your picture. The motor should idle perfectly.

They have missed something. Sync and link or carb set up or carb side plates leaking or thermoststs removed or...........you get the picture now.

I would bet the rebuilder doesn't want the motor to "sneeze" at an idle. The skirt to wall clearance will not do that. We have built them tight and loose and they all idled perfectly.

Good luck!
