1994 150hp Please Help

Took the boat out today and when I tried to plane out (approx. 2300 rpm) the rpm went through the roof and no go. The engine ran fine but I believe I have a lower unit issue. Fished all day just could not get above 2300 rpm. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Spun hub in the prop. Either buy a new prop or have a new hub installed.

I removed the prop after the advice from the board and low and behold rubber fragments and no rubber is in sight on the lower unit side of the prop. Thanks for the great advice as always.
