I just yardsale-bought a 1994 Gamefisher 15hp outboard model # 225.581506 for $100! It appears lightly used. I tested it in a barrel for 1/2 min, it starts right up on the first pull, but the telltale was weak/sputtering. (no normal pee stream hole, just slots) I read somewhere on the interwebs that these motors don't have the normal pee stream, and that the sputtering is normal. Also the webs say that after the motor warms up, the stream should be much stronger with STEAM. I am wary of letting the motor run long enough for this to happen. (in case the interwebs were wrong)

Anybody know anything about the pee stream of the early '90s Gamefisher/Force 15hp motors?

Also, anybody have a pdf manual for this series?
Or a good line on impellers/parts?

I found this site searching for answers and I saw that Backlash back in 2001 offered this manual via email. If Backlash is still around, do you still have this manual?

Thanks for any help
Jim

If you have a tell- tail the stream should be solid , if it sputters then I would think a new impeller is in order.

As for steam comming out of it (the little pee stream) I would think its getting too hot, a little steam out of the normal exhaust area is ok.

I think the first thing you need to do is replace the water pump houseing and impeller.

This motor seems to be a good buy for 100 bucks! If you dont know the history then the first thing to do is the impeller as they will harden over time and non use then fall apart when the motor is started again.

It doesn't appear to have a true pee hole/tell tale. It does have two 1/2" slots on the back which I believe to be exhaust relief ports. A "pee" search of the Force forum here leads me to believe that sputtering water thru the exhaust relief ports is normal. (that's what mine does)

I don't know if the water sputtering is supposed to get stronger after the motor warms up and the thermostat opens.

I DO plan to replace the impeller, as soon as I can get one. I'm just wondering if I can use the motor now without hurting it.

Thanks,
Jim
