I checked compression, lowest reading 130, highest reading 150.

I plumbed in a new gas tank (3 gallon).

Ran carb cleaner through engine.

Problem still the same. Not fuel I guess.

The only thing I found is a bad shift switch. Can anyone advise what effect a bad switch will have on motor ooperation?

Thanks,

RHB

It kills cylinder 1,3,5 when shifting out of gear, if switch is shorted are maladjusted, the engine would only run on cylinder 2,4,6. Which cylinders had 150 psi compression?

Easy to check the shift switch, just unplug the switch. Have you check the gearcase oil? After you get engine running, I would do a decarb, and recheck compression, 150 is to high for standard engine.

Did you change regulator on this engine, and is tach working? Did you have powerpack black/yellow wires disconnected?

Re: 1994 200 HP Johnson Stalls above 1000RPM

Thanks Clanton,

I have not checked regulator. I would like to find some info on how to dig into the regulator assembly so I could repair the three I have replaced on the other motor.

I checked the shift switch per service manual instructions. The shift switch contacts remain open when I shift into foward or reverse instead of shorting to ground. I don't think this is cause of the problem but I do not know how the power pack works. The manual does not cover how the power pack handles the sensor inputs.

I could not pull the flywheel as I had planned because the puller I recently purchased did not come with the correct threaded bolts. I think the flywheel threads for the puller are 5/16-24.

I will check gearcase oil next trip to the boat.

Thanks for your help.
