I checked compression:

1 110 2 105
3 110 4 108
5 100 6 100

I checked power pack output with peak reading voltmeter adapter on Fluke 87:

1 68V 2 185V
3 65V 4 185V
5 65V 6 185V

I then pulled the flywheel and checked the stator coil assembly.

One charge coil (for 2,4,6) read 830 ohms as per manual the other coil measured 400 ohms. I am going to replace the stator coil. My question is will the power pack be OK or is it likely the shorted coil damaged the power pack?

Thank for any advise.

RHB

Install new stator, check output of new stator, install old pack, check pack output to coil.

Thanks for yout help Clanton. I am grateful for your experienced advise. It's easy to get lost and forget fundamentals.

I will do as you advise. The new stator cost me $280 + tax ouch.

I post back with the results.

RHB

Re: 1994 200 HP Johnson Stalls above 1000RPM

The stator coil was the fix. The output to the primary side of coils on both banks now measures 190V using peak reading adapter on Fluke Model 87. Can just the charge coil be replaced on the bad stator? Where can I find a replacement?

I plan to replace the shift switch. I pulled the throttle and shift cable to get a good look at the shift switch mounting assembly. I am stumped by what I see. Can anyone describe how the linkage engages the pin on the shift switch?

Thanks
