I have a 1994 210 Horizon, when its cold it starts up on the first crank. After running and getting warmed up, once i stop to swim or what not, if i let it sit more than a few seconds it will crank for about 10 seconds before finally starting up. and in this case if i go to take off right after (some times not all the time) it will back fire and feels like it has no power or sometimes die after i return to neutral. if i sit in neutral and rev it up a few times and try again it takes off with out any problems, maybe a little sluggish but no back firing, but the main issue seems to be the starting, its consistent as where the loss of power and back firing on take off is not......ANY advice would be greatly appreciated...

You'd still see it, even if it was underwater. I won't be black smoke all the time, just when it's hard starting if it's doing what I think it is. Next time it acts up have someone start the boat while you hang your head over the back.

fuel injectors are leaking upon shutdown and flooding the engine out a bit. If it still hard starts put the throttle lever in neutral and open it up to full while cranking, that will clear the flood out.

If the eng is on computer a bad temp sensor signal will cause this prob., also if it has a mass airflo sensor and its dirty it can cause a bad reading.

the boat usually stays about 150 155, i dont know if that is hot or not, and this model doesnt have a Mass airflow sensor, just a throttle body with an IAC

I would bet it has an air intake sensor of some sort. Also, the temp sensor for the ECU is NOT the same one used for the engine guage if I remember correctly. It would likely cause the ECU to run rich because it thinks the engine is cold.

so, where would i find this sensor, and how can i test it? what should this engines operating temp be? what your saying is u think the ECU is thinking the engine is cold because when its actually warm

In addition to the other suggestions, check fuel pressure (Key On, Engine Off), at Idle and for 5 minutes after shut-down. If pressure drops after shut-down, chances are leaking injector(s). If fuel pressure is not to specs., it may be a faulty fuel pressure regulator.

You may also want to check and clean the throttle body.

If you're only going to use it once, it'll be cheaper to borrow/rent one.

First, I don't know your boat at all... but I do know FI real well. The above idea of being rich is probably true however one other thing that can cause this is bad temp sending unit. The ecu doesn't know the motor is warm/hot and keeps looking at the "cold" tables. Also, leaking injectors can also be caused by bad connections on the injectors themselves. Too high of fuel pressure will cause over-rich conditions as well.

The IAC should be on the intake prolly behind and near the TB.
