I am in the process of replacing a broken mounting bracket on this motor. While tearing down I found the main rod in the hydraulic trim system was actually bent at the topside. The used unit I purchased has a good hydraulic unit but bad trim motor. My question is this.....they are both fasttrac units from same years...can I simply replace the main rod from one to the other? Does it require any special tools other than a spanner of the correct size? I have rebuilt many many hydraulic cylinders and I assume that this cylinder is basically the same.

If I'm understanding correctly you've got two tilt/trim units, one has a bent rod, one has a bad motor. If so then it seems to me that it would be a lot easier to move the good trim motor from one unit to the other.

Re: 1994 90hp TLERC trim question

the mounting bracket I purchased came off a salt water motor. The trim motor is questionable...i know my original trim motor is good but has the bent rod........the side mounting brackets on mine are what bbroke...i am taking 2 units to make one. I really just need to know if the hydraulic rod once it I take the cap off with the appropriate wrench will come out of the cylinder like other hydraulic rams?
