I have a concern about my engine Temp. its showing in the gauge 145 degrees in Idle and 175 in WOT the book says 143 and 163. I also check temp with a digital thermometer and in Idle is 145 pointing the temp. sensor gauge if I point in top of the heads is like 141. I change thermostat, water pump still doing the same thing. I also check compression #1 144psi
#2 135psi
#3 140psi
this reading was with engine normal temp and carbs. WOT

Any advise or suggestions

Thanks

Check the temp at the thermostat housing on the head. Did you use OEM parts? Tattle tale hose connected to top of engine block? Temp sensor have tan/blue stripe wire? This a new problem for this engine?

Re: 1994 Envinrude 70HP E70TLERV I think is overheating

Hi Clanton

The temperature in the out side housing of thermostat is 138, yes I always try to use OEM parts , the pee hose is connect to the top of the port side block and the temperature of the pee hole is around 87 degrees, yes the Temp sensor have tan/blue wires and I only have this engine for about 5 weeks and I dont know to much about it. I know the previous owner rebuilt the engine like three years ago and the engine have 168 hours since rebuilt. Something I dont understand is where that hot water is going because the pee hole is 87 degrees and the water coming from the lower exhaust is like 80 degrees. By the way the water inlet is around 73 degrees is water from well.
I hope this help in something.Let me know what the experts need to say about this situation because I am a rookie

Thank You

You are saying the idle temp is 145 degrees ans the WOT temp is 175 degrees. Correct?

Go to BPR parts, pull up your engine by model number. look at the thermostat parts. Verify parts and installation.

If this is a salt water motor, there may be a layer of salts in the water passages that "insulate" the metal from cooling. Just a thought

Yes it's a Salt Water Engine. Today I took Head out here are some pictures.
I can find nothing wrong on it but anyway I'm going to scrape the most I can from around the cylinders.

How many rpms at WOT in water in gear. Does the middle and lower cylinder have as much oil on cylinder as upper cylinder?

WOT is doing 5400 RPM and yes when I removed the Head the cylinders had same amount of oil. I did notice when I removed the Head top and bottom were black and the center was clean.

Does the thermometer agree with the guages? Checking at the thermostat housing.

The outside of the thermostat housing temperature is like 140 but when I put the laser where the temp. sender is screw in the head that reading match with the gauge.
