1994 Evinrude 225 thermostat question

I hate fixing things that are not broke. But, I have become paranoid about my thermostats because of all the posts here on iboats. I usually do my annual tune-up in late February and planned to change thermostats this year. I went to the local marine shop to purchase new t-stats and mechanic said he would not mess with them since I have not had any problems. I left the shop with my normal tune up gear (plugs, fuel filters, decarb, lower unit oil)(water pump is new). This motor was purchased new in June of 1994 and has never had any major problems. Thermostats are the original ones that came with the motor. The motor has never been in salt water. The motor has 110 hours on it (was used very little until last year). Any opinions on whether or not I should change the thermostats?
Thanks

Change them would be my suggestion, too. I run my Johnson OB in salt water, but flush with fresh every time used. You are about at the time where they may fail. The peace of mind will be worth a lot. Also suggest usung OEM parts, since I have had trouble with alternates.

I got my new thermostats today. The part number is 437090. Can anyone verify that this is the correct thermostat for my motor.

Thank You

Sandbass, that is the same number in my parts book for my 97 225. Sounds like you are good to go :) .

Thanks Mako, the new thermostats look identical to the old ones...I was concerned the open and close temperature could different. My manual does not have part numbers. I feel confident they are correct.

No problem Sandbass, I took the advice I read here and got the parts manual to when I ordered my service manual. It has come in handy. Thanks for this post it brought it to my attention mine need to be changed also. Like you had read it on other post but had my mind on other things so didn't pay much attention. Got other problem taken care of, maybe I can prevent some future problems. This forum is priceless :D :D !!

Taz
