Hi, I have read that this motor has a tendency to trap air in the top of block and cause problems. Can anyone provide information on how to vent the block. I tried doing a search here but no luck so far.
Thank You

Do a search for posts by dhadley's member #. He has replied to posts about this problem. I used his procedure and the top of the block definitely runs cooler.

Remove the blow off valve on the back of the block and replace the plastic inner piece with a '98 or later version. They have slots cut in the nose to bleed off air. Before 1998, we drilled a 1/8" hole in the center of the nose.

If you have the extra long shaft version with the replacable water inlets, they make a high volume version for use in aerated water such as with jack plates, on pontoon boats, tunnel hulls, etc.

Hey Seahorse, I pulled the blowoff valve and drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the tip of the plastic cone. You can blow air in one of the hose connections and it comes out the hole in center of cone (I assume this proves it will vent properly...I did not try blowing through hole to make it come out the other way?).

Thank you for the info. I run this motor on a jackplate and I am sure that the water is aerated when picked up by motor. Engine does seem warm on top and I do not want to damage electronics under the flywheel. I am going to the lake tomorrow to test. Should I notice any changes in water pressure? Does the hole provide proper ventilation or is it better to purchase the new valve with slots? I really appreciate your help. Thanks! :)
