Re: 1994 Johnson 115 Outboard - Lower Unit Lube

Bear,

Lower the motor in the normal running position as if you had the boat in the water.
You will see two plugs in your lower unit. One at the bottom front of the lower unit. Another one up the lower unit a little ways.
Remove both plugs and drain the old oil into a oil pan. Notice to see if there is any gray looking oil. If so than you are having a little water get into your lower unit from the seal behind the prop.
If your oil looks ok, than the lower unit oil you buy will be in a jug with a pointed nozzel. Insert the nozzel in the bottom hole with the motor still down. Force the oil out of the jug into the lower unit intil it comes out the top hole. When that happens insert your top plug, than pull out the jug from you bottom hole and insert your bottom plug. Job is done. The only thing I forgot to mention is when you pull out the top plug, inspect it for metal. The plug has a maganet built on the plug. Make sure you do not have any pieces of metal on the plug. There will be some very fine powder.

happy motoring

markcv
