1994 johnson 120 idle probs

I have a 94 johnson 120 motor starts fine and runs through its choke period then when motor idles down runs for 10 sec. and shuts down after back fire.
Can keep running by reving up but runs hard and spits fuel back at me from carbs and small jets on the front thinking about just replacing carbs but would like suggestions.

If it is spitting fuel OUT of the carb, you need to check the reed valves for proper operation.
