Just got this motor and the TTU was bad. Found one off craigslist and removed the old and installed the "new". When we were hand lowering it and it got to the stern bracket there was a cracking sound and it starting draining fluid all over the ground. The limit pin was in the #1 position. After raising it up and moving the pin to the #6 location to keep it off, I removed the reservoir and found it had been cracked about 2 inches front to back. I also noticed that when the motor was all the way down the ventilation plate was touching the transom. Do you guys think that it should not have been in the #1 position or the new one let it drop in farther than the old? The units are identical (same part#) and measure the same.

All I can tell you is if everything is installed correctly, the t/t pin should work in any position with out breaking anything. Can you post some pics??

Boobie is correct. What kind of unit did you install? The original installed with one pin in the transom bracket and one pin in the tilt bracket. The resevoir is probably available from a Johnny dealer.

Also, the AV plate should not touch the transom in any position, unless you have some wierd transom. A picture would be helpful
