I just got this motor running on muffs for the first time in over a year. I bought it last Febuarary and havent run it. I am just wanting some general info. Specifically: What top end rpms am I looking for? is the oil system relyable? I have some mercury Premium plus oil left over fom my last boat can I run that in this motor? If not what oil is recomended? I was once told that all TCW3 oils would work, but I dont completely believe that. Are there any other items that should be checked before going out or running this motor? Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks

Well, a lot of things to do and opinions will be coming hour way, I will start with these:

1. A well maintained VRO oil system is incredibly reliable...gets a lot of bad reviews by unknowledgeable folks.

2. TCW3 oil is fine.

3. If your vro is still installed, and this is new to you, run 50:1 in tank until you verify everything works.

4. New impellar.

5. If you going to work on it yourself get factory manual.

6. Do a cylinder drop test under light load to make sure all cylinders are firing and your not running lean on one which would be bad.

What is a cylinder drop test? The rest of that is already in the works.

Thanks

I read somwhere that a main component to the vro system is the alarm. Is there a good way to test if the alarm is working properly.

Thanks,
Lee
