1994 Johnson 30 Fuel Supply

I have a 94 Johnson 30 horse that seems to be starving for fuel at times. It starts, runs, idles flawlessly, but sometimes while it's planing out or running at high RPM's, it starts missing for 15 or 20 seconds, then all of a sudden it's back on it's A-game again. I rebuilt the carburetor when I bought the boat about 2 years ago. I also pulled the fuel tank out to replace the sending unit. I have noticed that the top of the fuel tank has sagged down a bit from age, so I can't say for sure that the pickup tube isn't blocked, but I would assume that the end is cut at 45 degrees to prevent occlusion. I took the connector that attaches the fuel line to the outboard off, and pumped fuel by hand back into the tank. It doesn't seem to have any trouble at all sucking fuel from the tank to refill the bulb. I started noticing the problem late last year after I replaced the fuel line assembly and primer bulb. Is it possible that the primer bulb is defective? Is the fuel pump a more likely candidate? I took the fuel pump apart and inspected the diaphragm. It doesn't have any cracks in it at all. I can't find pinholes in any of the fuel lines. It is not leaking gasoline anywhere. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1994 Johnson 30 Fuel Supply

I was afraid that was going to be the first suggestion, because I don't have a portable tank; I suppose I'll have to go pick one up. Thanks.
