1994 johnson 30 not pumping water

Hi Folks I replaced the water pump on my prop driven 30 hp and it still isn't pumping water.I faced the impeller fins in a counter clockwise orientation.I made sure the riser tube was connected tapered key was in and did everything properly.What I'm thinking is that a shreaded impeller before I got the motor last year is blocking a water passage in the motor somewhere.Where do I go first or what else could it be.thanks in advance

there is a round plate just above the top spark plug. that is the thermostat. pull the stat, using muffs, start the motor and see if you get water. you will need a new oring to replace, and anyother parts that may be questionable.

Try reaming some weedeater line up through the tell-tale to see if some debris is plugging it. Obviously, you do not want to run the motor until you ID the problem.
