I'm relatively new to boating and I have available to me a 1994 Mariner 30 HP with less than 500 hours on it.. I want to put it on my 29' pontoon. It's little smaller than I wanted, but I cant afford much more.. It should push my pontoon from here to there and back, just not very quickly.... The seller wants $1000.00. Is this a good price? Is this a good motor? He told me Yamaha makes the engine coupled with a mercury shaft... Thanks for any advice....

Re: 1994 mariner 30HP

That's a Mercury-made product unless he's off on the model year. Yamaha made most Mariners below 65Hp in the 70s and 80s. Even then, it's 4-strokes that mated Yamaha powerheads with Mercury legs starting in the 90s. Mercury didn't have 4-stroke cylinder head making capabilities until the late 90s. I suppose the motor is priced about right if it's been well maintained.
