I recently got this boat and took it out once and ran into a bit of a problem. The tilt/trim wouldn't work. The tilt/trim motor would run while the switch was engaged in the down position but there was absolutely no noise while up. I was told it could be the switch itself but I have no idea where to find a replacement??? I was told they are cheap so it would be worth it to just replace it to see if it can be fixed that easy.

Before I bought it the guy let me test drive it and there was no problem with it... and the tilt/trim worked without a problem. It sat for about 2 weeks while I redid carpet on the boat itself and cleaned it up. Then the day I took it out, at the launch ramp I couldn't even get it off the transom saver.

Also, It does have a leak in the trim/tilt motor itself... I was told by the guy I bought it from that I just need to fill the reservoir before every trip and it always ran good...

any info on that would be great too. I'll post pics later tomorrow so you guys can get a better view on everything.

Thank you

That motor will have a switch on the motor cowling, plus one in the boat. They are connected in parallel, so either will work. There are two relays that are energized by the switches. If the motor runs in one direction. it should run in the other direction, as the same motor windings are used in both directions. Likely your poblem is with a relay or the wiring. Swap relays and see if the problem moves.

I don't believe I have a switch on the motor cowling...
Thanks

Gee, My '93 Merc 135HPV6 has a switch on the cowling. They were a standard item by '93, I had thought.

Maybe your motor is older than '94? If so, you may not have PTT relays, but you may have PTT solenoids. The wiring is similar, but the 3 wire motor has distinct windings for up and down, versus the two wire motor and PTT Relays.

You might post serial number, so we can figure it out.

OK, Then you will have a 3 wire motor (if it was not updated with a newer model), and two solenoids. That motor looked to have the trim pump in the boat. Find the solenoid with the blue wire on it. Use a jumper wire to jumper from the red wire on the solenoid to the small blue wire on the solenoid. If the PTT motor runs, it is your trim switch or wiring that is bad. If it doesn't run, the solenoid could be bad. Now jumper from red wire to large blue wire and see if PTT motor runs.

Okay, thanks. I'll try it out tomorrow and I'll actually post pics tomorrow so you can get a better look. I don't remember a blue wire but I'll check it out.

Thank you
