Had a problem over the weekend. Backed off the trailer in reverse. Shoved the control into forward and it made a gear grinding sound. Tried it again same noise. Walked it back on the trailer. So much for boating on the fourth.
I found a fuel line hose tie had broken allowing the line to fall behind the shift linkage under the carb. This was blocking the linkage and preventing full engagement in forward. After repairing the fuel line, I drained the foot and found silver metal findings along with one very small piece of metal. The drain plug was also covered with finings. I flushed the foot, replace the oil. I haven't gone back to the water but on the trailer it continues to make grinding noise when it's first engaged which seems to be coming from the top of the drive shaft. The prop turns in forward so it's engaging. I don't know if it will stay in gear under pressure in the water.
Questions........If it works in the water run it and continue to check the foot oil? What foot will interchange with a 1994 Cly Merc Ob?

Thanks,
Capt. Gus
