1994 mercury 225 black max

bought a used crestliner W/A cuddy with this motor --threw a few thousand at it and it runs great (mostly) -- likes to stall at low speed when docking though---my wrench says do not touch the red button on throttle when going from forward to reverse---then when going back to forward thats when it stalls---frustrating---any thoughts
anyone know how I could get the black max emblem ( the guy with the beard)in a .jpg or a pdf ---childish I know but I want it

Is this a carb or EFI engine? Has the shift switch been tested?

Where is the idle set at?

Depends on what engine you have..... A EFI is 650+/-50rpm in gear and a carb model is 750+/- 50rpm in gear.

it is a carbed model and my merc mechanic says the shift switch tested ok ---but i question it ----I can run all day no problem then when idiling into dock ---shift from forward to reverse it stalls ---big problem

Fatzbullet, doesn't that motor have the idle stabilizer on it. If it has it and it's bad you might experience this problem.

Yes it has a idle stablizer but it is built into the ECM...and yes the carb models have a ECM. You could have a bad shift diode replacement # 17461A5

Thanks for the info Faztbullet---and sschefer----------- will check into the shift diode right away ----want to get this thing running right it goes fast and strong when I got her out on the water --- but when you play bumper cars when docking its embarrasing

sorry guys I may have given bad info ---it may be a 1993 ----don't know if that makes a difference in your answer
Its a Mercury 225HP offshore 3.0L ---------SN: 0G089101------It is very hard trying to find the year
