I have just bought this boat and can't wait to get rid of that little Whaler. The boat is in great shape (bought from a friend) and I have read alot about Pro Line materials and construction. I guess in 1995 they stopped using wood all together, but what was the construction before then? Was everything (stringers, deck, etc) wood or was its use limited? I can see that the hatch covers, fish boxes and console are fiberglass structure, but obviously the structural members are covered in resin. I've seen wood used around the cuddy, and I'm not one of those that thinks wood is bad, I'm just interested to know what I've got in there. Thanks guys.

Re: 1994 Pro Line 231 wood

Montauk I had a 79 Proline 23 cuddy cabin model new. It had a fair amount of wood trim around the cabin. The door was a teak bifold as I remember. Everything else was glass, and as far as the interior construction... no guess.

Re: 1994 Pro Line 231 wood

I have a 1993 ProLine 240. There is a lot of wood internal to the construction of the boat including the deck, transom, bulkheads and most of the components inside the cabin (v-berth, galley, head enclosure).

I don't know about the stringers, but I'm guessing wood also. This is kind of standard construction for boats of that type in 1993.

Most of this wood seems to be reasonably encapsulated - in 12 years I never had a wood-rot issue. Although I do remember that ProLine made a big deal a couple of years later for going with no-wood-anywhere.
