On cold start its runs very rough it takes 4 minutes to run good(smokes alot). It seems to run too rich... I have installed new plugs and no change... I wonder if the quality of 2 stroke oil has something to do with it... any advice on eliminate this problem would be appreciated.

Its a tracker pro series engine

Always use TCW rate oil and if the problem still exists then clean the carbs and do a synchronization after reinstalling them

Some of those engine do alot of smoking on startup, have you adjusted the idle mix on the top 2 carbs the bottom 2 don't adjust on that engine

To adjust the carbs put the engine in the water let it warm up, completely then slowly turn the adjustment screw on the top carb in until the engine stumbles or loses RPM then richen it about 1/8 to 1/4 turn drop down and do number 2 carb the same way. Then repeat the process on both carbs again, at that point check acceleration if there is a flat spot richen both carbs another 1/8 turn

Re: 1995 115 hp Merc 4 cyl

Pennzoil has a full range of syn oils for marine use. They do reduce emissions. I can be fishing (after warm up) with the trolling motor for a half hr. or so, pull in the TM, fire it up and hammer it with practically non detectable smoke on hole shot.

I have an '02 90 hp and I usually fish alone on weekdays when the lake is little used.

I drive (drove) the boat off the trailer and tied to the dock idling while I parked the truck. Then returned and powered out to the end of the nowake zone and hammered it. It usually stuttered with one cylinder obviously missing and then in a few seconds it would clear up and no more problems the rest of the day.

I changed from surface gap to normal gapped plugs and it helped but didn't stop it. So I decided to shut the engine off while parking the truck. Did the trick.

I have found that these engines are cold natured and with that nature is incomplete combustion and quite a bit of smoke when cold.......but not as much as a yammie 60 hp on a G3 that launched next to me one day. I was down wind and thought I was going to gag.

HTH,

Mark
