1995 150hp Black Max reverse shifting - grinds

Maybe it is common, I don't know.<br /><br />I am looking a '95 Trophy Walkaround Hardtop in FL. with twin 150 Black Max's. about 300 hrs (no hr meter but looks it.) <br />They seem to run very smooth and strong, although they smoke some the first couple min. of Idle warm up.<br />They do not smoke after that. Thats probably normal. ?<br />My concern is they kind of grind as you put them in reverse. The Starboard grinds a little more then the port.<br /><br />I have a new 150 Honda that does not do that at all.<br /><br />Are these reliable motors ? <br /><br />Any thoughts on the boat? (asking $15,000)

The smoke is normal on 2 cycle engines. The grinding might be a simple cable adjustment

Shift quickly! As quick as you can without advancing the rpms of the motors... If it still grinds it could be an issue worth checking into further....
