Hi,

Just picked up a 1995 15HP johnson, ss. Aside from a scuff on the cowling, the thing looks like showroom new!

Had the ear muffs on and it idled like a champ, shifted clean, and best of all peed a nice stream of cool water.

The lower unit fluid and spark plugs were replaced this spring as part of good maintenance that is evident on this motor.

Here's the kicker... I got it for $500.

I had to drive 100 miles round trip, but i think i got a keeper.

Taking it out for the shake down tonight for an hour or two.

any suggestions for items to check??

It sounds like it is a good motor bugboy, i'm no expert but greasing the appropriate points with a grease gun and lubing the appropriate points with a spray lube of your choice (little plastic tube comes with them for accurate placement) would be worth doing for good measure.
Even if it is peeing water, sometimes the water may still not be reaching the head in extreme circumstances..worth checking by placing fingers or hand on the pipe that you can see running accross the head near plugs..if it is hot then water ain't gettin in there. I doubt you have this problem, i reckon all you got was probably a bargain :)

Ok, ok, i have found an issue. I say issue and not problem because the engine idles ok...

However, I am trying to increase idle speed as I feel the idle is on the rough side. When i twist the idle control knob in the tiller handle, nothing happens. I've tried turning it 4 or 5 complete revolutions... and nothing changes.

might be stating the obvious but is the knob spinning on the shaft?? Needle could be seized etc. (worst case) try taking knob off then turning the actual shaft of the needle so to speak. Let us know how you went. It seems like the amount of turns is way more than it should be to adjust????
