carb question:
1995 ocean pro 125 hrs on motor/ just bought it/ it had been setting up/ motor model E225TZEOB / late model carbs/
starboard bank running @165 degrees/ port @135 deg
ordered new thermostats/ haven't got them yet

could the heat problem be from the low speed jets?
I have clean carbs but not screwed with low speed jets which are located left side 1/2 way up...they
are supposed to be 2 1/2 turns out...
I think i am running lean somewhere i.e. it coughs about every 8-10 seconds...rpm 1150 smooth...
question: I removed side covers on the throttle body and cleaned 5 small openings and saw where the jet screwed in..it seemed clean....should i remove these? and are there small holes to clean? I didn't want to mess with the adjustment on these jets....

your help would be appreciated

No, idle and mid jets, as well as screw adjustments, will not cause overheating.

You could swap the thermos from side to side, and see if the overtemp follows the thermos.
You can remove the thermos completely, leaving the covers off, and start the motor to flush out the passages. Not too long, or better yet, one side at a time.

I always run my engines in a tank, never on muffs. The air introduced by the hose and muffs can cause air pockets in the top of the block.

probably from poor flushing techniques of previous owner. motor has to run until tstats open, to properly flush the motor.

remove you carbs an do a proper cleaning and reassemble with rebuild kits.

i have an outboard shop, this summer, have seen 3 225's blown due to 1/2 ***** carb cleaning.

I removed thermostat cover, removed thermostat, and flushed each side separately while using the muffs.

The port side acted like it had direct hose pressure, nice constant flow.
The starboard side reacted like good pressure then one second pause.
Then good pressure out then pause.

Could I have an exhaust gas leak it the water jacket on the starboard side?
Does anyone know If there a simple fix to try?
Or just run for 5 min let cool, and then run again?

thanks

I would like to close this post...after 3 months of work
I was able to fix my problems...only with the very knowledgeable and helpful attitude of DASELBEE.
He came to my aid and gave me helpful tips and advice.

1. the clog in the starboard bank of cylinders that caused the higher than normal reading of 165 degrees: could have been mud dobber????
I removed the new thremo (modified the old one i.e. removing all thermo body/parts and making it a washer with a 5/16 in. hole) put it in and took boat on a 30 minute ride...one week later when i was able to get back to working on the boat... i removed the mod. thermo and checked water flow out that bank of clys....to my surprise, the clog had disappeared/disolved etc. I re-installed new thermo.. all cyl are 125-130 degrees on the hose.
2. did a link-sync, adjusted the throttle linkage (that had been previously moved) cleaned 6 carbs (by doing 6 root canals)
After cleaning I still had two carbs acting up?.
a. one carb (#4 ) clogged...re-reamed it
b. adjusted the butterfly on cly #2 that was not closing

3. I had a mystery fuel restriction from the beginning....but since it would not run/idle, this was last on my list to fix...
drained 30 gallons of fuel out of tank.. 15 year old boat../cleaned fuel tank vent that had wax in it
replaced bulb with new ethanol bulb../on the last trip/run the bulb had flattened... pulled the tank anti siphon valve (it was clogged)
r/r rectifier, tack, voltmeter, roller on throttle link, needle in carb stuck shut/ anti siphon value bad/
wax on tank vent/ cleaned carbs/adjusted throttle linkage (previously mall adjusted)

total sync-link adjustment.

the boat idles fine... runs cool....

thanks again DASELBEE.
