1995 25hp merc 2 cylinder no spark.

I have a 1995 mercury 2 cylinder that a customer hooked up battery cables backwards. I replaced the solenoid and rectifier (both tested bad). Started and test ran the motor ran great. Customer called me a week later and told me the motor would shut down when shifting also said this was an intermitent problem (of Course!). Went and test ran the motor on the lake and of course i couldnt recreate the problem. I got a call about a week later telling me the motor wouldnt even start now. We had alot of rain latley so I didnt get out to look at it for about a week when I got another call from my customer saying "Jim thanks for fixing my boat how much do I owe you". He wennt down and it started right up. Then a few days later got another call andsaid its dead again so I ran right over with my trusty spark checker and no spark on either cylinder.
Thought switch box right away but cant find the test procedures for this particular motor in the seloc manual (the one motor I dont have a factory manual for). Any ideas?

tested the switch box and It tested bad.
if any one needs the test proceedures for most mercury ignition systems i found my cheat book and am willing to share.
