Hi, Really Confused about this Johnson. Some days this motor will start by just touching the key and just purrs all day long, running excellent. Then the very next day will take a long while to start and fuel will come out of all three carbs, then will finally start and will either run fine or will only run for a few minutes and then die. Please if anybody can help me, our summer is ending fast, fast ., fast, THANKS

sounds like the float(s) are sticking when fuel pours out. Just buy a rebuild kit and replace the needle valve seat, needle valve, and float. Set the float so when turned upside down the end of the float away from the hinge is slightly higher than level.

Thanks, I will try that, but sometimes when it wouldnt start but turn over ok, my son would tap on the left side of the with the cover off and it would fire right up and run fine.

Maybe it was enough to let the float drop so it quit flooding the carb. The only wire that wouldn't let it start would be the black/yellow as that is your kill wire.

Thank You So Much, Going to try to get a rebuild kit today, If I cant get one right away because I live quite a ways from a marine shop, is there anything I can do in the meantime?

yeah, just take the carb off and make sure that the needle seat is clean after you remove the needle valve from the float. You might want to get a fine wire and run it through there to make sure no varnish or other gunk is in it. Spray it out good with carb cleaner make sure your float is set properly and replace everything. If the needle has a rubber tip on it they are known for sticking once in a while. In your rebuild kit there will be a new one that hopefully is just brass on the end. I almost forgot. Welcome to iboats.

There are several componets in you ignition system that could cause your no spark problem. Go to the CDI website and look up your engine. Use their troubleshooting guide to help you find your problem.

Thanks, I looked over what I could figure out from the CDI troubleshooting, everything looked good that I could tell, and, touched the key, ran beautiful for 10 minutes, then just shut down, waited 30 minutes and it fired right up again, it did this three times, has me totally stumped, Thanks....

When it shuts down grab a timing light and verify that it is a spark issue. At least you will find out if you are losing spark and we can go from there.
