Well, as long as it does not drag(If you're careful when you pull out), you can just leave it where it is. You will lose some flexability, in that you won't be able to adjust the trim of the motor when running, but other than that, you should be fine. If you must tilt the motor up or change it's position, you can always loosen the manual relief screw and muscle it up...Remember, alot of motors don't have tilt and trim in the first place, but they can be manually tilted...Will it do anything right now? Does the trim motor run at all?

They make a kit to upgrade to a later version, but it costs a lot. Have you looked for a used one?

Re: 1995 60hp mercury

I had the power trim unit go on my 1996 60 hp merc a couple years ago. Mercury did still have them then but it was hard to find a dealer who would work with you and they cost over 600 USD. I opted and gambled with a used one. It still cost 350 USD. The only issue I had with the used unit was the wiring was burned but replaced it with old one. The replacement unit is still running after 1000 hours.
Not knowing any symptoms it does not seem probable, not impossible, that the pump is the problem. There are quite a few software pieces and the motor itself to go wrong before the pump. I ran my original for over 2000 outoard operating hours and went through 2 sets of brushes, 2 sets of relief o-rings and one rebuild kit in the power trim unit.

Rockonafly
