So, I'm in the middle of changing out all of the bellows, trim senders, lower shift cable, and the water hose that runs from the gimble housing to the bell housing, on both engines of my boat. I have all the bellows removed, and am trying to access the screw in insert that holds the hose in place, in behind the engine.

I replaced both engines last fall, and am kicking myself hard for not doing this while they were removed!!

Any tips from the experts on doing this? I have the correct tool for removing the plastic inserts from the hose, but accessing it behind the engine is a real pain...

Thanks,

Re: 1995 Bravo 2 Water Hose

I was able to remove and install the new water hose on the port engine, by reaching in on the side of engine and kind of feeling my way around behind it. An air ratchet came in very handy when it was time to remove the old plastic insert, and install the new one in the new hose. The old hose was fairly dried out, and I suspect had not been changed in years if at all. Definitely worth the effort. I'm not that big of a guy, and I cannot imagine how a 6'-4" 250 lb guy could ever do this job.

Now on to the starboard side:

This one is going to be much tougher, as there are only 6 or 8 inches between the exhaust manifolds on the two engines, and in addition, this one has the power steering in behind the engine as well.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.;)

Don?t boats sometimes suck!!

I?ve been there. No real easy way for access but if you put a little grease or oil on the plastic insert or the inside of the water hose where it contacts the insert it will go in much easier. DO NOT put any lube on the outside of the water hose where it contacts the transom assembly or it may want to spin and get twisted up and that could cause an engine overheat.

Hopefully, this is at least a little help.

Re: 1995 Bravo 2 Water Hose

Thanks for your post!

I did manage to get the hose installed on the second engine. I turned the steering wheel all the way to the left, and removed one of the exhaust manifolds / riser / elbow all in one piece which really helped with access.

When I went to remove the old insert, it would not turn without the entire hose spinning... So after thinking about it for a few minutes, I cut the hose off as close as possible to the gimble housing, and then punched both the insert and the hose out from the outside. In hindsight, I should have removed the hose on the other engine this way too, as it was much faster.;)

Installing the new hose was still not easy, but it?s done and I'm glad I made the effort.:)
