1995 evinrude 112 spl vs. 115

hello all iboaters havent posted in awhile and im curious to know what the differences are in a 112 spl and a 115.they seem to have the same carbs same bubble in the back but what gives the 115 the extra 3 hp?:confused:

As far as I know, they are actually the same horsepower. The 112 just doesn't have oil injection.

ezmobee is correct. Also, the 20 inch shaft length 112's do not have a combination rectifier/regulator like the 115 big brothers. They only have a rectifier. The 112 was offered as a sales gimmick by OMC. It was the same as a 115, but was marketed as a "reduced cost" engine, by eliminating some 115 standard options.

does this mean a tach cant be rigged to it if it doesnt have the regulator part?

You will find no tach operational differences between the engines. You still have the same tach leads at the control box. The difference is that with the 112, you will have unregulated charging of the battery. Sometimes you will see voltages up to 16.5 volts once the engine has run for 15 minutes or more. The unregulated charging can be hard on the battery-make sure you keep it full of water.

i see why you say a reduced cost engine.i looked at the same year 115 and it has a newer fast trac ptt system while looking at my 112 seeing it has the old style trim.
