My main fuse keeps blowing. I can replace it and start the motor but the fuse is now blown. Same goes for raising the motor; blows the fuse. I think it is my ignition switch but not sure. This may be important: I recently removed the tach since it was bad. This is about the same time I noticed the problems. I put the old one back in and reconnected the wires. Could there be a connection?

Hilander,

Two things may cause that fuse to blow.

1. Something is hooked up backwards (polarity).

2. Something is shorting against a ground.

By the way, did you unplug the tach. harness when you took the tach. out?

No, I didn't remove the harness. I think I should have. Could simply removing the tach cause the fuse to blow/

Hilander,

It could if any of the three wires touch each other or a ground.

djohns19,

thanks for the info. I disassembled the ignition and found the entire wiring harness had melted together. I repaired, taped and coated all exposed wiring and this appears to have fixed the problem.
