Hi, I am looking to buy a 21 ft Chris Craft with a 200 hp Evinrude Ocean Pro outboard. Owner states the engine "hesitates" when trying to get on plane but once on plane runs well. Any thoughts on what the issue might be. Boat is not in the water so I am unable to give you a better description. Any thoughts on what the issue might be would be appreciated.

Pretty hard to answer such a vague question. "Hesitates" could mean a lot of things. It could mean it's just slow getting on plane. In that case, it could be running on fewer cylinders than are built into that engine. It could mean that the engine cuts out at midrange speeds. Could be ignition or carb problems.

Could be there's nothing at all wrong.

Ask more questions about what the seller means. Then check compression, spark, and get an on-water demo of the boat and find out.

Frankly, unless you can run the boat on the water, you should consider the outboard to need a complete go-through. If the seller won't launch it and try the outboard out, then walk off unless the price is low enough to pay for an overhaul of the outboard. Keep in mind that what may sound like a minor thing, like ignition problems, could cost you hundreds of bucks, and even more if a shop does the work.

Thanks! I know the question was vaque but the dealor was not able to give me any additional information. He did say the tilt had "stopped working". I will see if I can get a test drive. Thanks again.

If the tilt is not working that can explain it all. The tilt sounds like it"s stuck at plain speeds and in order to get on plain you need to adjust the trim as you start out of the hole and get on plain. Even though that is probly the problem you should still spend a littlie and have a mechanic look it over befor buying. Know this to be best.
