I have a 1995 force 40hp and the adapter plate gasket is bad and there is water leaking into the lower cowl. How big of a job is it to replace. I am able to work on the motor for example change impeller, clean carb ect. it it something that can be done without having a pro do it. Money is tight right now so i would like to do it my self. And im going to get a repair manuel if i attempt it. Thanks Alot

Re: 1995 Force 40hp Adapter Plate Gasket

I just did one for a guy. The leak was so bad that it would fill the cowl with water. Then the carb would start to ingest some and the engine would stutter. Replacing it required complete disassembly of the block from the leg with the required disassembly of all related components--carb, linkages, fuel lines, electrical, etc.

The only thing I didn't do was split the crankcase, remove the flywheel, or remove the manifold. Not really too difficult, but a bit time consuming. No special tools required; if you can turn a wrench, you can do it.
